Where To Find The Best Foreign Food In Jeonju

Over the years, many restaurants claiming to serve good Western food have popped up across Jeonju, most of which completely miss the mark.

Having spent the last year eating my way across the city, I think I finally know enough to single out the ones that don’t.

Here are 5 of my favourite places to eat foreign food in Jeonju.

1) Mad Hungry: Western Food

Mad Hungry is the foreigner hub of Jeonju. Most nights you’ll find hungry waygooks gathering here in search of tasty food, drinks and fellow English speakers to enjoy them with.

The menu is extensive. Burgers, chilli, fish and chips, shepherds pie, pasta and more. They also have plenty of spirits on offer, and bar games to make use of when you’re feeling untouchable.

Located in the heart of shinshigagi, Mad Hungry is one of the best places to go if you’re feeling a little homesick in Jeonju.

2) Charles Crown: Mexican Food

I’ve raved about Charles Crown before, in an article I wrote about Mexican food in Jeonju. This little place has become the best spot in Jeonju for burritos, tacos and quesadillas.

Charles Crown only opened quite recently but it’s already got a great reputation amongst foreigners in the city. The owner is friendly, the food is delicious and the prices are amazing too.

It’s located close to the wedding street in Gaeksa. Beware: it’s closed on Sundays!

3) Masala: Indian Food

Masala is a popular and authentic Indian restaurant on the outskirts of Jeonju’s Hanok Village. It has an extensive menu, including all the classic curries as well as a large variety of vegetarian options. This is a welcomed treat for any veggies who struggle to find any vegetarian food in Korea at all!

I’ve been here on multiple occasions and it is definitely the best Indian food I’ve ever had – who’d have thought it! The prices are a little higher than what you might usually spend on a meal in Korea, but it’s so worth it.

4) Matilda’s: Pizza

Whenever I go to Matilda’s, I fully intend to take a photo of my meal. However, every time it arrives I lose my mind and eat the whole thing by mistake. So you’ll have to trust me when I say the food looks and tastes great.

The highlight at Matilda’s is the pizza, which my American friends confirm is the best American-style pizza in Jeonju. Thick doughy crusts and loaded slices certainly make for a tasty meal.

Chilli cheese fries, burgers, hot dogs and fried chicken are also available on the menu. Matilda’s is located in the “new Gaeksa” area.

5) Masi Taco: Mexican Food

The last addition to this list is another Mexican restaurant in Gaeksa. Popular with foreigners and locals alike, Masi Taco’s menu includes fajitas (pictured above), enchiladas, tacos, burritos and more.

Like Mad Hungry, Masi Taco is also one of Jeonju’s well-established foreigner hotspots. Its great reputation and uber-cool decor makes it an ideal spot to meet and eat with friends.
